1888-89 Notes
The Football League's opening day was Saturday 8th September 1888. West Bromwich Albion would have topped the table on this day.
The season concluded in 20 April 1889.
The league rules stated that the bottom four clubs were obliged to retire and seek re-election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) along with any other clubs wishing to become League members. Stoke City, Burnley, Derby County, and Notts County were all re-elected for the 1889–90 season.
